3rd appointment, utterly unprofessional. Once seated I told the hairstylist that I loved the first haircut, would like her to do exactly the same & thanked her for a makeup recommendation. As she began cutting I could tell she wasn't doing the same cut. I thought, "perhaps with 7 weeks since my last visit & other clients, I shouldn't assume she recalls my haircut." So I stated a friendly reminder about desired cut. Undeterred, she continued & I watched in horror as she sliced 3 inch chunks out of my hair. " I didn't take length off the front," she said as I protested. The end result was terrible, chunky, uneven, unblended layers or as the hairstylist stated, "I call it face-framing" that gives a mushroom head effect to my hair & will take 3-4 months to grow out. Not a miscommunication, an unprofessional, oppositional defiance problem & a very violating experience. So much so that Ulta has lost all of my business, as a regular customer of the store I will not return. Spend your money elsewhere for hairstyling, at more professional salons at the same cost with hairstylists who have enough experience with both hairstyling & professional business practices to get that listening, understanding & respecting a client's wants & needs is an intrinsic part of their craft.
Consistently out of products I need. I've never had this problem at Sephora. Might as well just go to the mall instead of wasting the time and drive to Ulta. Extremely unreliable and frustrating.
2nd appointment, mixed. All over color was good but highlighting wasn't even close to what I asked for, just bad. Desired highlights were subtle in color, type & placement. Further explaining I didn't want the traditional highlights because after multiple touchups you end up with large chunks of bleached hair, instead balayage highlights, not chunky but slimmer, subtle, face-framing highlights that could be sectioned out for touch up. As the hair stylist began doing the highlights I could tell she was doing a traditional highlight technique & I reiterated my desire to have face-framing highlights in sections easily pulled out for touch up. She continued to do what she was doing. I left the salon with babylights (yes, I know babylights are a trend) that were about 5-6 shades lighter than the overall color & looked artificial & terrible, especially in outdoor light. And not exactly face-framing either. Cost $105 + $22 tip. Yep, I still tipped 20%. Overall experience: Frustrating!
Delightful experience and helpful staff. Polite staff as well.
I was kind of hesitant to go here for my makeup application after I read the reviews BUT I AM SO GLAD I DID.
I decided that since the hairstylist had done a superb job with the 1st haircut I would go back for cut. Same for all over color. I would over look the highlight mishap but not do highlights with her again.
Salon experience frustrating, unprofessional. Because I didn't want to wait 3 weeks for a haircut by a referral, I decided to try Ulta's salon. 1st appointment was great, I felt listened to & understood about a style suitable for my lifestyle. I walked out of the salon happy with exactly the long, blended, classic layers & long side-swept bangs (or fringe, if you will) that I wanted, a correction to chunky, uneven, unblended layering (or chunky "face-framing") a trend I can't stand & had grown out for 3 months. The haircut was worth every penny of the $52 (+ $12 tip) I spent even though the stylist is listed online as $42 for haircut. I decided to give a color appointment a try.
The girls working are always too busy talking to each other than offering to help customers. I walked out twice without anyone asking to help me. Won't be back.
A few days later, I called the salon for a correction to the highlights. The highlights needed color put back in to eliminate the bride of Frankenstein effect & a few more highlights added in order to have the desired face-framing look. The manager did a fabulous job on the highlight correction, I wasn't charged but tipped her $15. I still didn't have the type of highlights I wanted but the corrected highlights looked great. Yay, professionalism! I also explained to the manager that I viewed the problem with the highlights as a listening problem not a miscommunication.
